This stretch of the Concord River is located inside the designated Sudbury, Assabet and Concord Rivers National Wild and Scenic River. The designated 8-mile segment of the Concord River stretch of this designated Rivers System extends from Egg Rock at the confluence of the Sudbury and Assabet Rivers downstream to the Route 3 Bridge in the town of Billerica. The Bartlett's Landing Conservation Land, which is the location of the posted coords and photos, is located within the designated stretch of the Concord River very close to its downstream end. In fact, we were able to see the Route 3 bridge from this location and have included a photo of it. We had originally planned to stop on the Route 3 bridge and take photos from that location, but heavy traffic and safety concerns prevented that so we found this adjacent piece of conservation land instead for the coordinate and photos location.
According to page 9 of the March/April 2003 issue of the Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions Newsletter (visit link), Billerica Conservation Commissioner Joanne Giovino and other citizens have ensured the permanent protection of Bartlett's Landing, which provides public access to a portion of this designated stretch of the Concord River.
