Crater of Diamonds State Park is the only place in the world where the public is welcome to search an authentic diamond field and take home their find. The park gets over 85,000 visitors annually. People come from all over the globe to search the ancient, diamond-bearing lamproite pipe called Prairie Creek Pipe.

Each year, hundreds of diamonds are uncovered at the park’s unique, 36-acre diamond field (approximately 3 diamonds are found per day). It has been estimated that approximately 4 billion dollars in diamonds could still be discovered at Crater of Diamonds State Park. It has also been estimated that as much as 31,000 carats of diamond are present within tourists’ reach (to a depth of 10 feet across the known diamond-bearing area of the pipe).

While diamonds are the park’s primary attraction, more than 40 different semiprecious gems and minerals can also be found. For example, agate, amethyst, barite, calcite, jasper, opal and quartz are just a few of the commonly found stones and minerals.

Location

The unique Crater of Diamonds State Park is found among southwest Arkansas’ pine forests along the banks of the Little Missouri River. The park is located on Arkansas Highway 30, two miles southeast of Murfreesboro in Pike County.
