The Cotter dam is one of the 3 dams on the Cotter River, with the 3 dams being the main water catchment for Canberra, the nations capital. A new dam wall is to commence construction in 2009, down stream from the existing wall to increase the size of the water storage. The cotter picnic area is one of Canberra's favourite weekend play areas, taking on a very special beauty in Autumn.
