Bermondsey was at one time London's "Leather Area". Many trades grew up close to the busy wharves of the Pool of London on the river Thames. The London leather , Hide & Wool Exchange is on the corner of Weston Street and Leathermarket Street. It only performed its intended function until 1912[1].
The architects were George Elkington & Sons [2,4]. It's an imposing building, with roundels containing relief carvings with scenes from the leather industry (see gallery pictures).
The building now houses a pub named The Leather Exchange [3]. (Until recently it was called the Jugglers Arms).
