A Glacial Erratic. (But don't call it that to it's face.)

Madison boulder is unusual among rocks - it is a "Glacial Erratic" - a rock that has been picked up, moved and deposited by a glacier. In this case, a sheet of ice more than a mile thick. And even without that scenario, this is one stunning bit of geology...87 feet long, 23 feet wide and 37 feet high, weighing over 9 million pounds! The rock sits strangely alone within a nice forest glade. The site is free, easily accessible from Route 113, and managed by the NH Dept. of Parks and Recreation. Trophywife, of Geocaching fame, stands in as scale-model human in the photo.
