Squantum Point is a perfect location to see Boston Harbor. To the right, the harbor is easily visible, and you can see the Kennedy Library, UMass Boston, Fort Independence (Castle Island), and some of the islands. To the left, the channel of the Neponset River can be seen, quietly pushing its way into the brackish harbor.

The Neponset River is not a large river. At one time, small boats traveled to the Lower Mills for trade, but today, yachts and motor boats travel along it. One of the greatest assets is the Neponset Estuary, which is one of the largest remaining salt marshes in Boston Harbor. The estuary extends at least a couple miles to the Lower Mills village in Dorchester and Milton, where there is a dam that provided water to some of the oldest mills in the country and the Walter Baker Chocolate Factory.

Squantum Point Park is the remnant of the former Squantum Naval Air Station, which was the first of its kind. The paths trace where one of the runways ran right to the point, where there is a concrete structure with rocks embedded in it, separating the Neponset from Boston Harbor. The parking lot entrance is near the junction of Victory Road and MWRA Haul Road. There are a couple paths from the parking lot. One is well marked at the lot corner. The main path is lined with both historical and environmental stone markers that tell about the area. Along the way, you might meet up with a dog or two. At the point, you might meet a fisher or two.
