The Hay Adams is a 5-star hotel at 16th and H Streets, NW, on the opposite side of LaFayette Square from the White House. President-elect Obama and his family stayed here prior to his inauguration so daughters Malia and Sasha could start school at Sidwell Friends.
The tree is dedicated to the Iue family of Osaka, Japan, which owned the hotel from 1989 through 2006; it was planted in 2006.
