The wall used to be part of Cardiff Castle but now surrounds the public park. The gargoyles were built when the castle was being redesigned in gothic style in the late 1800s by William Burges.
The wall was designed by architect William Burges in 1866,
though not built until 1890, and it was originally in front of the
Castle. In 1925 the wall was moved to its present position when
the road was widened.
