Museum
The Prison Museum allows the visitor to the history of the Dutch criminal justice system from 1600 until now. There is a rich collection of historical objects, models, prints, photographs and videos about the history of the criminal law in the Netherlands. Many stories and anecdotes on the basis of multi-media presentations and interactive objects told.
Location
The museum is located in the Second Founded in 1823, one of the many national monuments in Veenhuizen. This particular village detention since mid-19th century, inextricably linked to the prison system and is the ideal place for a Prison Museum. The Second Founded under the responsibility of the Government Buildings Department completely renovated by architect Mayke disks.

Museum
Het Gevangenismuseum laat de bezoeker kennismaken met de geschiedenis van het Nederlandse strafrechtssysteem van 1600 tot nu. Er is een rijke collectie historische objecten, maquettes, prenten, foto’s en video’s over de geschiedenis van de strafrechtstoepassing in Nederland. Veel verhalen en anekdotes worden aan de hand van multimediale presentaties en interactieve objecten verteld.
Locatie
Het museum is gevestigd in het Tweede Gesticht uit 1823, één van de vele rijksmonumenten in Veenhuizen. Dit bijzondere detentiedorp is sinds halverwege de 19de eeuw onlosmakelijk verbonden met het gevangeniswezen en is dan ook dé uitgelezen plek voor een Gevangenismuseum. Het Tweede Gesticht is onder verantwoordelijkheid van de Rijksgebouwendienst volledig gerenoveerd door architect Mayke Schijve.
