The purpose of the Independent Order Of Odd Fellows, or the I.O.O.F. is to give aid to those in need and to benefit mankind.

The I.O.O.F. is a tax-exempt organization and has no church affiliation. They pride themselves by saying they have members from every denomination known to man. Each district of the fellowship in the United States chooses their own charity.

Worldwide, the I.O.O.F. began as a fraternity of brothers and was founded in England by James Wildey. To add to their lengthy history, the first lodge of brothers in the United States was founded in Baltimore, Md. in 1819. The Odd Fellows logo and doctrines are based on the three-link principles F.L.T. or Friendship, Love and Truth. According to the doctrine, the three links, “symbolize the chain that binds our members together and illustrates that a fraternity is strongest when joined together.” A flag with the three-link F.L.T stands in the Ashe lodge near the podium.
