A 14th century gateway into the Cathedral Close at Salisbury. The gate is still locked at night. The gate is opened at 6:00am and closes at 11:00pm. This Gatehouse is in Wikipedia's list of Grade I listed buildings in Wiltshire

The gate was built between 1327 and 1342. The High Street or North gate is the main point of entry into the Cathedral Close. It housed the small lock-up jail for those convicted of crimes inside the Cathedral Close. Beside the gate stands the Porters Lodge. The post of porter to the Close was a much sought-after by the servants of kings and nobles in the middle ages. There was at one time a Catholic Chapel registered at the lodge.
