Chief Osceola, war chief of the Seminole in Florida died of malaria in 1838, three months after his capture. The doctor taking care of his body, removed his head and buried him without it.

Indians believe their spirits cannot move on unless their bodies are intact. His head went to the doctor's daughter and was said to be lost in a fire. If you look at this part of the wall above the dry moat it looks like Chief Osceola's head (he had a photo taken). It actually looks as though it is coming out from the moat wall. You can see a nose and chin and outline of the face.
