By 1948, the Newark Council already had over 400 members, with their meeting rooms being located over the J.C. Penney Store. Sometime later, they purchased the New York Telephone building and moved their council to that location. However, urban renewal in the mid 1970's forced them to relocate again. They found their current location, a former church, and after renovating the interior and adding an upstairs, turned it into their current meeting place.
