Western Oregon is no stranger to heavy rainfall. Salem has long had issues with sewage overflow during those periods, and this facility is seen as the answer. Constructed largely underneath an existing city park, it is able to double the total sewage capacity of Salem in emergencies. The facility is currently operating on a trial basis, and is due to be 100% functional within 30 days, in time for the spring rainy season.
What is the capacity of the facility?: 50 million gallons per day.
Describe the biological treatment technology used.:
Trickling filters.
How are biosolids (sludge) managed?: Either converted to methane or marketed to farm users.
