Owens Corning World Headquarters Toledo,Oh. The Owens Corning World Headquarters complex contains a 275-seat auditorium, a full-service conference center, a 400-seat dining facility and gourmet company store, a full-service health and fitness center, a medical center/employee assistance facility and a full-service credit union. The site includes walking trails, exercise stations, a softball field, gazebo and a campus-style courtyard. The serpentine wall of the Owens Corning World Headquarters was designed by Cesar Pelli to echo the trace of the Mawnee River.The whole building is amazing and unique to say the least.
This 450,000 square foot headquarters includes one of the most technologically advanced, state of the art mechanical systems to be developed in the United States at that time. The building’s program includes general office space and specialty space with cafeteria, conference rooms, multi media room and a health clinic and other support facilities. Efficient and flexible mechanical systems allow instantaneous changes in space planning without bringing in outside contractors. The systems incorporate a raised access floor that serves as an air plenum and wireway, swirl type diffusers that distribute air into the work space, and a system of movable floor boxes for power and communication. The project includes electric source cooling and heating. High efficiency custom roof top variable air volume air conditioning systems provide cooling. The system utilizes high efficiency compressors and motors, variable speed drives on the air handling units, an air-side economizer to maximize energy efficiency, as well as high efficiency air filters to ensure a comfortable and healthy working environment. High efficiency light sources are used throughout the facility. This is the first application of underfloor air to a corporate headquarters project in the United States. 10 years after its completion, this project received a LEED EB Silver Rating.
