The tip of Garden Island (really just a peninsula) houses the Royal Australian Navy Heritage Centre. The rest of the island is a military base. The public is allowed to only visit the tip and access is only by ferry.
The sign reads: "The IKARA Anti-Submarine missile was an Australian developed weapon system. A sonar contact of a submarine would be fed to the missile and the missile launched. When in the target area, the homing Mk44 torpedo would detach from the missile body and enter the water suspended by a parachute. The homing torpedo would then attack the submarine using its onboard sonar system. IKARA was deployed in PERTH Class missile guided destroyers and River Class Destroyer Escorts of the RAN and sold to other allied Navies. IKARA was withdrawn from service in 1993."
Location restrictions: Located on public land but only accessible by ferry. The rest of the island is a military base.
