This is one of those campgrounds that some, maybe most, people will find absolutely boring. But the reason I list it is because of it's quaintness and isolation and you can be pretty much gauranteed that you may have the place to yourself a lot of the time. Little Deer Lake is located in the Lac La Ronge Provincial park in the
Boreal Forest of
Saskatchewan and is approx an hours drive north of La Ronge township but about 10 mins before Missinipe. If you get to Missinipe township you have gone a little to far and will need to go back up the road a bit. The Campground is about 400 metres down a little side road on your right if you are heading north on Highway 102 north of La Ronge. The sign post to turn into it is fairly obvious and would be hard to miss. The campground has next to nothing there except a boat ramp and a Bear proof mesh shed for food storage and an open shelter with an open fire place. The lake is deceptively big and what you can see from the boat ramp and jetty is only a tip of the lake. There are only 2 campsites with no hook-ups and a toilet block in the trees. The open shelter tucked up in the trees left of the boat ramp is brilliant to sit in at night with a roaring fire and spin bulls**t with whoever you are with while soaking your kidneys. I would safely assume there is fish to be caught in the lake as there is in the Churchill River if you want to drive a bit further along to road to. There is no potable water so take water containers and you can go to Missinipe and fill them up as well as the shop that is there for whatever other needs you have. If I want to get away from it all then this is where I come but it is a substantial drive to get there. Take Bear spray and exercise
Bear precautions here as I haven't seen Bears actually in the camp site itself but I have seen them further along the road close by. Evidence that they do visit the campsite is here as well. I have posted a few pics of the place and some are in Black & White as I was in the mood on one of my trips there to try and take Black & White pics of the shelter. You'll get the general idea. Leave the site clean & tidy if you visit so as not to give reason for members of the Ursidae clan an excuse to revisit the place.
