This mine is situated in the wooded area beside the River Tamar, the area has been having a "facelift" recently, the mine had been cleared of trees and fenced and new paths have been created through the woods for visitors. The mine is close to the Chimney Rock Walk.
Wheal Russell is a nineteenth century amalgamation of eighteenth century copper sets. Between 1852 and 1891 Wheal Russell (aka Russell United) produced 11,400 tons of 5 ½ % copper, 11 tons of black tin and 10 tons of mispickel.
