The plaque reads: "This bronze propeller is from USS Darter (SS-576), a Tang class submarine built in 1954. Diesel-Electric submarines, such as Darter and Pampanito, were powered when operating on the surface by diesel engine that generated electricity for the motors, which in turn drove the two propeller shafts.
