New Years Needham is a new celebration modeled after the Boston First Night celebrations that happen every New Years Eve. 2008 marked the second annual holding of the event, and the Needham Cultural Council, sponsor of the event, is planning to continue with the 3rd annual event.
The events are held in several locations, including the Needham Public Library, many churches, the local YMCA, the town common and town hall. Activities included attending performances, childrens activities, attending or participating in a parade, hearing a play and performances using fire. At the town common, there was an ice sculpture being carved.
Similar to Boston's First Night, people buy a button to be admitted to all the events. At $5 (2008), it was well worth the price!
This year, 2008, there was a snow storm, then Arctic force winds came through. People and families still came and had a good time.
