This NEXRAD station serves San Francisco and San Jose areas from nearly 3500-foot Mt. Umunhum (named after the Ohlone Indian word for "hummingbird"). The NEXRAD radar is near The Cube, which is the remnant of a now-closed Air Force cold-war early-warning radar facility. The land at the top of the mountain is part of a public open space preserve, but public access is prohibited at this time due to toxic contaminants and physical hazards at the site.
