This cut benchmark is a 1GL benchmark which dates from the First Geodetic Survey of England. Its is mark number 454 on the Bridgewater to Plymouth line of levelling which took place 18th July 1849 and 20th February 1850. At that time it was calculated that the benchmark was 987.396 feet above sea-level. The benchmark was originally 1.34 feet above ground level.
