This church, originally built in 1534, is flanked by a large tower that houses the church bells.

This tower is open to the public, and for a small fee you can ascend the stairs and reach the roof of the church. From here, you have a great city view of Granada. You can easily spot the cathedral, as well as other large buildings like the San Francisco church.

Within the panoramic view you can also locate the Mombacho Volcano, as well as Lake Nicaragua with the islets and Zapatera island not far away from the shore.

Ascending the La Merced Church not only provides you with a superb city view, it is also a great place to take pictures of the beautiful city and the surroundings.

The price of entering and ascending the tower is $1. You can always find somebody in the church who can let you in. Opening hours are between 6AM and 5PM. The La Merced Church is located on the northeast corner of the intersection of two streets: the Calle Real and the Avenida 14 de September
