The Chaffey Theatre was opened in 1984 and is one of four regional theatres built by the South Australian Government to bring the arts to country areas. It is named after brothers William and George Chaffey who established Australia’s first irrigation settlement in 1887. The whole of the Riverland district is reliant on irrigation and many local landmarks bear the Chaffey name. The Bench depicts images associated with the arts.
