From the museum's website you can see their impact on their region:
Attendance averages 85,000 visitors annually, and we serve an additional 10,000 with outreach activities in the community. Explorium serves a much broader area than just Fayette County. We have hosted guests from over 90 different Kentucky counties, most states, and even other countries.
Since 1998, many new permanent exhibits have been installed, including:
Brainzilla – all about the human brain
Wonder Woods – a Kentucky-based nature area for toddlers
Hold Your Horses – all about the Horse
Homes Around the World – examples of living situations from around the world
The Fuller Projection Map – the most accurate, proportional map of the world
Dinosaurs as Natural Wonders – featuring Tyrannosaurus Rex and Triceratops skulls
Doctor Kids Clinic – where kids get to be the doctors
Keeping Current – a natural history exhibit focused on the Kentucky River as the state's first highway with 27' of running water
Sun Wise Oasis – illustrating sun-smart behaviors
The Bubble Zone – a fun, interactive world of surface tension and fluid dynamics
Current and upcoming traveling and permanent exhibits include:
The Amazing Maze - discover the fun of navigation and exploring
Color Play – explore the fun and science of color, light and optics.
As the exhibits and outreach have grown, we have started and expanded some exciting programs. Our annual Museum Go Round features more than 100 artists under the age of 18 exhibiting and selling their work; entering its seventh year, attendance has exceeded 3,000 people. We host overnight programs with the Wilderness Road Girl Scouts each year. Summer camps teach science, art and culture to middle-school children. Adults attend parenting classes throughout the year, and they can find parent resources in the Wonder Woods early childhood exhibit.
