There was a church on this site as early as 1257 as there are records of the appointment of the first Rector. The basic structure of the church as we see it today is little changed from 1531 when the south aisle was added. Parts of the the chancel arch and the Font date from the churches early period. In the east wall of the South Chancel is a 15th century monument of a knight with, sadly, his legs missing. Major restoration was carried out in 1871 when the interior was refurbished.
In 1995 the roof was found to be infested with Death Watch beetle. It was so severe that the church was closed for a period whilst £10,000's worth of repairs were made to the roof.
The tower contains a peal of six bells some of which date from 1775. The bells were re-hung in a metal frame in 1978.
Outside the church stands a 6th century cross.
