When Ben Newman met Charles Woodward of the CaPTA Group at the 2006 Cairns Amateurs Races the birth of the Blue Sky Brewery was assured.
After 12 month of planning the construction of the Blue Sky Brewery Bar & Restaurant began in December 2007, and opened to the public on 4th August 2008.
The Blue Sky Brewery uses a 12 hectolitre Jacob Carl Brewing System with 15 fermentation and maturation vats that can produce around 300,000 litres of beer per year. The system was built in Germany and after originaly being set up in Sopporo Japan, was sold to the Newman Family who transported it to Cairns.
The Blue Sky Brewery Bar & Restaurant makes 7 handcrafted beers;
FNQ Lager - So good you have to FNQ for it. Naturally brewed with fresh floral hop aromas, the colour is quite pale, with a crisp and clean flavour.
Cairns Gold - Displays similar properties to FNQ Lager, with additional hops to add body and flavour so you won't even know you're drinking low alcohol, midstrength beer.
Reef Blonde - Our low carb beer, with 95% less sugar than a normal beer, resulting in a dry clean finish, The aroma and after-taste are thanks to ‘Nelson Sauvin’ hops grown only in New Zealand’s Marlborough wine region, famed for its Sauvignon Blanc wine.
Blue Sky Pilsner - A traditional Czech-style beer, made using imported Czech yeast and specialty saaz hops. With a dry but malty finish.
Woody Ale - A dark, flavoursome and complex English-style Ale served ‘on wood’. Displays some toasted malt flavours and is blended perfectly with a delicate hop finish – you won’t be disappointed.
True Blue Stout - A ‘big’, dark beer made with a variety of malts and hops. Has a slight coffee flavour from the large amount of roasted malt.
Mop Bros Light Ale - Our tasty light beer has a full malt flavour for those looking for less alcohol but plenty of character.
The Blue Sky Brewery conducts brewery tours at 11am, 3pm and 6pm every day.
