This late 18th century milestone is situated within the upstream refuge on the Cornish side of the old Nether bridge. The milestone served the Launceston to Holsworthy turnpike road. In 1760 the Launceston Turnpike Trust was set up to improve the roads in the area. Just up the road less than a mile towards Launceston is Dutson Toll house another relic of the turnpike age.
