This bridge spans the Seekoeispruit River and Hippo Avenue. Although the bridge has been here for some time Hippo Avenue has only been built in the last few years. This is due to the large amount of industrial development occurring in the area.
Effingham railway station is not too far to the south of the bridge, supplying service to the Metro Rail system.
Seekoeispruit is roughly translated from Afrikaans as river horse stream. The river from this point flows in to Sea Cow Lake, which in turn feeds the Umgeni River.
Seekoei, Sea Cow and river horse are all local names or nicknames for the Hippopotamus.
