John Brown State Park is the location for the beginning stages of the American Civil War. The blood was spilt within the boundaries of this park in August 1856. Pro-slavery men came across from Missouri swarming into the town of Osawatomie, Kansas. After a fight where several men on both sides were killed, the pro-slavery militia burned the town.
