In the centre of Romaldkirk is the medieval church of St Romald. St. Rumwold was a little known Saxon Saint. There has been a church on the site since Saxon times. The present church dates from about the 12th century. The church is known locally as the ‘Cathedral of the Dales’.
There are two places to enjoy a drink in Romaldkirk. The largest being the Rose and Crown with the Kirk Inn on the other side of the road.
There are many pleasant walks around Romaldkirk both alongside the River Tees and in the surrounding countryside. Nearby is a cycle route along the old Barnard Castle to Middleton-in-Teesdale railway line.
