Yarborough Cemetery, Belize's first public cemetery, still serves as a valuable resource for researchers and curiosity seekers alike looking for a glimpse into the past.
The cemetery was donated in July 1787 by Captain James Dundas Yarborough. First used exclusively by the Anglican congregation, in 1850 it was opened for the burial of other denominations. In 1896, the old Yarborough Cemetery was officially closed.
