When you come to Roatan you will find this lovely port to greet you. As you come into the dock area you immediately notice every motor vehicle from the island lined up to greet you to take you away to explore the island. The locals are very friendly and speak English and other languages to help you with anything you need. The area is developing and soon will be modernized as the construction in the area is booming. This is a very sad thing to see as the area gets its charm from the slower pace of the un-developed areas. Once you get off of your ship you enter the brand new port buildings that include some shopping. Diamonds International just opened a shop here, another sign that the area will soon be fully developed. We took a tour with Victor Boden tours and they were the best. The driver was ours for the day and took us anywhere we wanted to go while giving a detailed history of the area. The port area has a cross section of the very poor and the very rich living together. Dogs roam the streets that are lined with local shops trying to sell everything from dresses to mahogany wood bowls adding to the local charm. We recommend that you get off the boat early and see all that you can see in the day you are here. Get out to see the island as the city is not where the riches of this island await.
