Normally Pavey Ark is reached from the Langdale valley starting from The Old Dungeon Ghyill car park and firstly climbing to Stickle Tarn which stands at around 1250 feet, from the tarn Pavey Ark stands proudly at the rear, with it's near vertical cliffs of over 1000 feet.
There are a couple of routes to the top of the fell from the tarn, one is a very rough rock scramble known as Jack's Rake, and the other much easier route goes around the Eastern side of the mountain, still steep but much easier than the rake.
Pavey Ark is fairly central in the fells of the Lake District so the views from the summit very good, with of course the rest of The Langdale Pikes being on show,as are The Coniston fells to the South,to the West the Scafells can be seen above Thunacar Knott,The Kentmere range is to the East and The Helvellyn massive is seen to the North East.
Altitude in Feet: 2288
