"A Message From The 2008-2009 Exalted Ruler"
As you may know, I firmly believe in ritual competition.
Just like ritual,I'd like our theme to be T. E. A. M. (Together Elks Accomplish Miracles)and we do. We literally change lives, not just on the national level through scholarships, anti-drug programs and our veterans support programs but right here in New Hampshire and
the Greater Nashua area through programs such as: the Plus Company and Easter Seals seasonal parties that we host, the many youth
athletic teams that we sponsor, and sending needy children to Copper Cannon, our summer camp in Franconia. We are very lucky in
Nashua to have people who care and programs that work. Members(to many to mention) working together on web sites, social events
and charitable causes that all contribute to our good reputation in this community.
So you see, just like ritual, we are a TEAM. A team committed to improving our community, and having some fun doing it. True, we
don't always agree with each others opinions but like Henry Ford once said: "If two people always agree, one of them is unnecessary."
After this winter, here's an appropriate teamwork quote: "A snowflake is one of God's most fragile creations, but look what they can do
when they stick together! ~Author Unknown But the one that really reminded me of the Elks is: Teamwork is like a well-oiled machine
that is made up of many gears of different sizes, moving in many different directions but together having one common goal.
Believe me; we have a lot of "gears" different sizes who sometimes move in different directions! But we are all Elks!
When you are asked to become an Elk there are two important requirements: you have to believe in God and be an American citizen.
To me, that means living and acting by our nations' principles of freedom and choice and by showing respect and love for one another.
The last words you hear from the Exalted Ruler when you become an Elk are "one who loves his fellow man."
Lets' re-commit ourselves to that principle and have a great year!
