While the parish church of St Hugh was falling into decay the "Non-Conformist" in the form of Wesleyan Methodists were building chapels in the parish. The chapel in Quethiock being built in 1839 and that in nearby Blunts in 1843. The chapels both remain more or less unchanged since they were built. The freehold for the land that the Quethiock Chapel was built on was given to the Chapel Trust in 1921 by the Trustees of the late William Cory
