Sakimay First Nation holds a special place in my heart for several reasons. My Dad bought a tiny cabin on the south shore of Crooked Lake, Sakimay in 1952. That cabin has been in our family since then and is still in frequent use by my family. The second picture in the gallery is taken from the front of the cabin, looking north across Crooked Lake to the Shesheep Reserve, which is part of Sakimay. Dad was born a mile or so west of the west border of Sakimay. He was born in 1900, and told me stories of the old, old people from Sakimay who used to stop at his Dad's farm and visit and have meals. Some of my earliest memories are of Sakimay people. I grew up with Sakimay people at school and playing sports. Many are still close friends. I was fortunate to have known Paul Acoose, the Olympic runner. I attended his funeral.

Sakimay people are mostly Cree or Saulteaux, with both languages being spoken. Sakimay First Nation 74 also includes Minoahwachak 74C, Little Bone 74B, and Shesheep 74A, as well as several other parcels, including Treaty Four Reserve Grounds 77. Sakimay is the most westerly of four First Nations joined side-by-side, next being Cowessess, Kahkewistahaw and Ochapowace.
