The barrel organ was bought by Reverend Nathaniel Bond in 1858. It was built by J.W. Walker costing 100 guineas. It was positioned in the church and remained in use until 1890. It had three barrels, each with twelve tunes and was still playable in 1910. Then due to non-use and wear and tear it was dismantled in 1943.
Parts of this organ were assembled with other bits and placed in Church Knowle church where they are still playable today. What you see here is the remainder of these bits of the original Steeple church barrel organ. These are also still playable thanks to restoration in 1990. New metal and wooden pipes were made and in 1994 this organ was officially re-dedicated.
