Phillip Cody, grandfather of Buffalo Bill, was an early settler of the Western Reserve (Northeast Ohio) with his wife. He came to Cleveland from Toronto Canada, in 1812 and became owner of a large farm in East Cleveland Township, near what is now East 86th street. He died in 1850 and was buried in the churchyard of the old Congregational church at the corner of Euclid Avenue and East 105th street. Mr. Harry B. Cody of 2603 Norfolk Road, a Great-Grandson, removed his ancestors to the East Cleveland Township Cemetery.
Buffalo Bills Father Issac Cody and his three brothers, Elijah, Joseph and Phillip were born in Cuyahoga County Ohio. Isaac Cody Married Mary Ann Leacock and settled on small farm in Scott County Iowa. Here the future plainsman, Indian Fighter and showman William Frederick Cody "Buffalo Bill" was born.

Source of this information: To Dwell With Fellow Clay: by Nancy Fogel West. A book published by the East Cleveland Township Cemetery Foundation.

Note the photo of Phillip's grave stone came from the CSU archives. The stone which was laying flat when the photo was taken is presumed to be buried under a few inches of soil just below the ground at the cody plot. The other stones that I have photoed were also found in this state, the Cemetery Foundation is just a few years old and is restoring years of neglect the cemetery has suffered over the last 25 years.

More information about this cemetery can be found at.
