Sergeant Heman Baker was a veteran of the American Revolutionary War, having served in the Colonian Army first in the Lexington Alarm Company and later the Bolton Company. Having been captured by the British in 1776, he contracted smallpox and was released that winter. Sergeant Baker died January 21, 1777 while on his way home to Tolland, CT, and was buried in a field in East Hartford.
This veteran's gravesite is located on property owned by Pratt & Whitney, an aerospace company known today as a leading manufacturer of aircraft turbine engines. The gravesite is currently maintained by Pratt & Whitney's Plant Security group. This group placed a memorial plaque at Sergeant Baker's grave to honor the soldier.
