St.Thomas's church is a back to front church,because the land on which it was built was very marshy,and as a result of the poor condition of the earth the tower had to be built at the East end of the church,where the ground was more solid,and not at the normal West end.
The church was designed by George Webster,with the foundation stone being laid on the 4th.of August 1835,and consecrated by The Bishop of Chester in 1837.
The church has seating for 850.
In 1860 some slight redesigns were carried out as was the building of the vestry.
In 1969/70 the 4 pinnacles of the tower were reduced in height for safety reasons.
