This observatory is run by the Salt Lake Astronomical Society, based in Salt Lake City, UT. They worked for years to garner enough in donations to replace an old, existing dome observatory here in Stansbury Park. Local grocery kings, the Harmans brothers, came through with a sizable contribution, and, added to the others, the SLAS was able to place their new building and move the existing dome to the new site on land donated by Stansbury Park Service Agency. The surrounding community and businesses are so supportive of the Astronomical Society that they go without streetlights and building lights on the nights that the SLAS holds their "Star Parties."
