While IMAX is the centerpiece of the new Cinemagic 15 located just north of the intersection of Hooksett Road and Mammoth Road, the cineplex will also boast the state’s largest regular movie screen, 1,400 square feet of viewing space in all, making it the most state-of-the-art cinema in New Hampshire.

“This project brings the most sophisticated equipment to this state,” said Bob Collins, marketing and public relations for Zyacorp Entertainment, the Manchester based company that owns Cinemagic.

Cinemagic 15 will show movies using six standard reel film, eight digital, plus the IMAX screen, said Collins.

“We are a test site for digital film. Digital is more consistent because it looks the same the first time you view it as it does on the 500th. Film wears out with use and you can see micro scratches,” said Collins.

All 15 cinemas have plush, high-back, race-car-meets-first-class-airline seats that slightly rock and have cup holders. There is ample foot room and stadium seating, which means each row of seats is 16 inches higher than the one in front, making screen obstruction unlikely. In the IMAX cinema, no seat is farther than 70 feet from the screen,
“Cinemagic is all about offering the best viewing experience for our customers,” said Collins.

The Hooksett location was two years in the making and is Cinemagic’s fifth cineplex in New England, but the first IMAX. Currently there are 140 IMAX screens in the United States.

IMAX is short for Image Maximum. An IMAX screen is curved to wrap around the audience, giving the feeling of immersion in the movie. Rather than 35mm film, IMAX uses 70mm, giving the image 10 times the detail, said Collins.

IMAX first opened in 1971 in Toronto where for more than 30 years IMAX only showed educational documentaries on topics such as Mount Everest, Antarctica and outer space.

Hollywood began formatting movies to fit IMAX in 2002, said Collins. This year, “300” and “Spiderman 3” were shown on IMAX screens. On average, look for six to eight Hollywood blockbusters to be shown on IMAX in Hooksett every year, said Collins.

Cinemagic 15 has capacity for 2,500 people. There is ample parking and the brightly colored, two-story foyer features a wide variety of foods plus electronic ticketing machines for ease and speed.
