During the mid-1800's there was a great increase in German and Irish immigrant population in the area to work in the local stone quarries. With this increase in population a need for a Catholic church was seen. St. Patrick's Church was built to fill this need and the first mass was conducted December 8, 1871. The interior of the church was damaged significantly during the floods of 1993 but was restored and reopened in 1995.
