When Sequoyah Boy Scout Council relocated its summer facilities to Camp Davy Crockett in the early 1970's, Paty Lumber Company provided funding for the construction of a stone chapel. The simple chapel has a speaker's podium and two side benches to address the scouts seated on a grassy hillside overlooking an inlet off Cherokee TVA lake. A new covered chapel was built in the 1990's, but occasionally groups will still use the original chapel since young boys sometimes sit better on the ground intead of chairs/benches.
When I saw this category, this was the place I thought I would like to waymark. Camp Davy Crockett is used year around, so the front grates should be open (refer to Waymark WM575G for the front gate coordinates). Drive straight back on the main road to the headquarters parking area. The new chapel will be seen on the hill above, with a totem pole (Waymark WM4WA2). The original chapel is behind it at the tree line.
The folks that are most likely to visit this waymark are the parents and dedicate Boy Scout leaders of young men learning to be reverent, which are well represented in the TriCities Geocachers group.
