The statue is a gift from France. It is an exact replica of a statue in France. There is another copy of the statue in Philadelphia. When the gift was first given to the city, they couldn't afford the $35,000 to have it erected and thus it sat in storage for about eight years. The statue originally sat at the base of Canal Street but was relocated to it's current location when the casino was built.
