Grayrigg is a quiet hamlet a few miles East of the town of Kendal, there are no pubs, shops or a post office here, the only public buildings are the church, the school and village hall.
Like so many Cumbrian villages and hamlets there had been a place of worship here at Grayrigg for many centuries, and the site of the present church was previously such a place,St.John's was built here in 1837 with the West Tower being an addition of 1869.
The architect of the church was George Webster of Kendal.
The church has one stained glass window,a 3 light East window of the ascension,by Shrigly and Hunt,as a memorial to Mary Rowlandson who built and endowed the Grayrigg almshouses.
