AmerenUE (formerly known as Union Electric Company) owns and operates Callaway Plant, the only power plant on the Ameren system that generates electricity by nuclear energy.

Standardized Nuclear Unit Power Plant System (SNUPPS), using a Westinghouse four-loop pressurized reactor and a General Electric turbine-generator.

More than 1,000 AmerenUE employees and contractors work at the plant with a total annual payroll of approximately $100 million.
Economic Benefit:
In 2007, the Callaway Plant accounted for nearly $30 million in taxes shared by 67 Missouri counties, including nearly $9 million in taxes to Callaway County.
The electricity generated by the Callaway Plant is enough to meet the needs of 780,000 average households every year.
