Hovenweep National Monument is made up of 6 different groups of ruins. The most accessible is the Square Tower Group, around which the park service has developed a hiking trail that winds around the canyon where these ruins sit. The visitor center and Ranger Station for the monument are also located here.

The only campground in the monument is here, by the Square Tower Group. It has a trail that winds down the canyon fromt he campground into the Square Tower Group, a great way to visit the ruins. Our site sat right by the cliff edge, with great views.

There are approximately 60 sites, and are on a year-round first-come, first-serve basis. Sites are primarily tent sites, but some can accomodate RVs up to 36 ft long. Sites are $10 per night, and flush toilets and running water available.

The next closest campground is in Cortez, Colorado at the McPhee Reservoir Campground. The mailing address for Hovenweep Monument is in Cortez, Colorado, but the physical location of the Visitor Center and campground are in Utah.
