This M47 Patton is located at Penha Garcia, Idanha-a-Nova, in a public area.
The M47, M48 and M60 Patton were used by the army of the United States during the wars in Korea and Vietnam.
It was named Patton in honor of the General George S. Patton, commander of the U.S. Third Army during World War II. General George S. Patton was one of first supporters of the use of tanks in battles.
It was used by the Portuguese Army from 1952, and received about 150 units.
Five M47 participated in the revolution of April 25, 1974. Initially in the government's side, come into control of the military "insurgents" to avoid bloodshed.
In March 13, 1984, and after 32 years of service to the nation, ends his life in the Portuguese army.
